Rancho Christian Names Kyle Owsley Head Coach of Varsity Baseball
Experienced program builder brings 20 years of baseball leadership, player development, and a commitment to faith-centered coaching
Rancho Christian Athletics is pleased to announce Kyle Owsley as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Baseball program.
Coach Owsley brings 20 years of experience in baseball as both a player and coach, along with a proven record of building programs, developing student-athletes, and preparing players for opportunities beyond high school.
“I’m incredibly honored and humbled for the opportunity to lead the Rancho Christian Eagles Baseball Program,” Owsley said. “This is a tremendous blessing, and it’s a privilege that means so much to me and my family. I’m excited to get to work, build meaningful relationships, and represent this program with integrity, passion, and purpose.”
A Proven Program Builder
Before joining Rancho Christian, Coach Owsley served as the Varsity Baseball Head Coach at Lakeside High School and Linfield Christian.
From 2019 through 2025, he led the Linfield Christian program to 87 victories and a .603 winning percentage. He was named the 2023 Ambassador League Coach of the Year and helped guide the Lions through significant growth both on and off the field.
When Coach Owsley arrived at Linfield Christian, the program had 17 rostered players. Under his leadership, the program grew to as many as 31 players and advanced through multiple CIF Southern Section divisions.
His teams reached the CIF quarterfinals in 2021 and the semifinals in 2023. Linfield also won the West Valley Mustangs Leadoff Tournament in 2024 after runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2023, and captured the San Diego Lions Tournament 2A Division championship in 2021.
During Coach Owsley’s tenure, the Lions recorded more than 1,200 hits, scored more than 900 runs, stole more than 400 bases, and posted a team fielding percentage of .950. His pitching staffs combined for a 2.96 ERA and more than 700 strikeouts.
Nine student-athletes from his Linfield teams continued their careers at the collegiate level. Across his full coaching career, more than 50 players under his direction have gone on to compete in college or professional baseball.
Experience Across Southern California Baseball
Coach Owsley also served as Head Varsity Assistant Coach at Scripps Ranch High School, where he helped strengthen the Falcons’ pitching staff, defense, outfield play, and baserunning.
He began his varsity coaching career at Mt. Carmel High School, his alma mater. During his first season on staff, the Sundevils won a CIF championship. As Varsity Pitching Coach, Coach Owsley helped guide the staff to a 5-0 postseason record and a 1.08 ERA during the championship run.
He is also the co-founder of the San Diego Deacons Baseball Club and currently coaches within the 5 Star West Coast Baseball Program.
A Distinguished Playing Career
Coach Owsley was a standout pitcher at Mt. Carmel High School, where he earned First Team All-CIF San Diego Section honors, First Team All-Avocado League recognition, and Avocado League Pitcher of the Year.
He continued his playing career at San Diego Mesa College, earning All-Pacific Coast Conference recognition in both seasons.
Coach Owsley then transferred to Cal State Los Angeles, where he earned All-CCAA honors and helped the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA Division II College World Series. The program finished among the top teams in the nation during both of his seasons.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California State University, Los Angeles, in 2009.
Coaching as Discipleship
For Coach Owsley, the purpose of coaching extends far beyond wins and losses.
“Coaching baseball is my discipleship,” he said. “I hope to make the young men I coach stronger in their faith, steadfast in their morals and foundations, and secure for the world and life set before them after high school.”
His coaching philosophy reflects Rancho Christian’s commitment to developing student-athletes who compete with discipline, lead with integrity, and pursue excellence at A Higher Standard.
Coach Owsley is especially passionate about building lasting relationships with players and families.
“The opportunity to make positive, lifelong impacts on the lives of the young men I get to coach is what means the most to me,” he said. “I want them and their families to know that my family and I care for them and consider them part of our family.”
His guiding verse is Joshua 1:9:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Coach Owsley and his wife, Morgan, have one daughter, Caroline.
