Building Big Ideas in 5th Grade

At Rancho Christian School, learning comes to life when students are given the opportunity to explore, create, and engage with the world around them. During a special Architecture Week, our 5th grade students stepped into the world of design through a meaningful partnership with the California Architectural Foundation.

As part of this experience, we welcomed two Temecula-based architects to campus who introduced students to the work of renowned architect Rafael Viñoly and the concept of the Urban Room. Through these lessons, students began to understand how architecture influences the way people interact, gather, and build community.

What made the week especially impactful was the hands-on application. Students took what they learned and designed their own architectural models, bringing their ideas to life through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Classrooms became studios as imagination and structure came together in tangible ways.

Moments like these reflect the heart of a Rancho Christian education, where academics extend beyond the textbook and into real-world experiences that inspire curiosity and innovation. Through opportunities like Architecture Week, our students are not only gaining knowledge, but also discovering how their ideas can shape the spaces and communities of the future.
