Rochelle Short started her playing career in high school for the Ukiah High, Wildcats. She chose to accept a scholarship offer from Cal State Fullerton and joined the Titans in 1995. After getting married in 1996 and transferring to San Joaquin Delta College, in 2001, she obtained her AA degree at San Joaquin Delta College. After trying out at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), the coaches offered her a scholarship to play volleyball for the Crusaders (now Sea Lions). In 2003 she finished her playing eligibility and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology. While playing at PLNU she was a member of the team that had a final four appearance and a respectable top 10 finish. She is a two time All American in the 2002 and 2003 season with multiple in the record book honors.
As the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach for Point Loma Nazarene University, she has led the Sea Lions to the NAIA National Championships each year. Her team finished nationally overall 5th in 2008, 9th in 2009, and 5th in 2010. With an overall record of 67-36 the program returned to one of the most competitive and elite programs in the NAIA, GSAC conference.
In the Junior’s scene, she is also one of the Inland Valley’s most decorated and experienced coaches. She has led teams of various ages to multiple Junior Olympic qualifiers which resulted in several Junior Olympic appearances. Her qualifying teams competed in Dallas in 2008, Miami in 2009, and in Reno in 2010. Her 2010 14s team was the first in the valley to be the Champions of the Southern California Junior National Qualifier in the club division. Prior to moving to Southern California, in 2000, she led an 18s team from Central Cal to the East Coast and obtained the Championship of the NorthEast Junior Olympic Qualifier in Baltimore, Maryland. That Championship qualified them to compete that season at the Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Currently, she is the Director/Owner of her own club Cross Point Volleyball Club based in Murrieta California.
“I love the game of volleyball and love being blessed with the ability to pass the skills and techniques as well as the passion for the sport on to the youth of the valley”. When she is not coaching volleyball she enjoys time with her family consisting of 4 kids, Brooke, Bryce, Ryleigh and Chandler.
