What is the RCS Annual Fund? …and other interesting questions.

Q. What is the RCS Annual Fund?

A: The Annual Fund is a year-round fundraising effort that exists to cover the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating a student at Rancho. Like all private schools, our budget is set so that tuition remains as low as possible. There still remains roughly a $1000 per student difference between tuition and the actual cost of Rancho excellence.

Q: What is the purpose of the RCS Annual Fund?

A: The money donated to the RCS Annual Fund is used within the fiscal year in which it is received, and supports a portion of Rancho’s daily operational needs. Tuition dollars only stretch so far, and we want our students to have the “extras” that turn an outstanding education into an excellent one. Your generous tax-deductible annual gift provides direct funding to exciting and creative educational initiatives that tuition alone does not cover.

Q. Why should I consider a gift to the RCS Annual Fund when I already pay tuition?

A: By helping to cover the gap between the price of tuition and what it actually costs to educate each RCS student, your gift to the Annual Fund directly influences the educational experience all students have at Rancho. The availability of more resources equals access to more educational tools. It’s the difference between good and great. Also, contributions to Rancho are tax-deductible, whereas tuition payments are not. When you donate to the RCS Annual Fund, you help keep tuition payments lower and your gift entitles you to a tax benefit.

Q: How much am I expected to give?

A: Your gift should reflect two things: an interest in caring how that gift is spent; and your enthusiasm for building a community. For some families, that is $10. For others, it is $1000 or more. The beauty of an Annual Fund donation is that amount doesn’t matter but intent and purpose very much do.

Q: Why is 100% participation so important?

A: 100% participation helps Rancho represent our community at its best. When people outside the Rancho family see such high levels of participation, they can understand the extent of Rancho enthusiasm and support for the school. When Rancho applies for foundation and corporate grants, our Annual Fund participation rate is one of the first factors considered as those organizations are granting aid. They want to see a strong showing of support from those closest to the school.

Q: Can I use my employer matching for the annual fund?

A: You absolutely can. We welcome this opportunity for additional dollars and are prepared to complete the necessary paperwork in order to receive them.

Q: What is the difference between annual fund and capital campaign?

A: Gifts to a capital campaign (like the new building) allow us to build facilities, add programs, and build our endowment. Capital campaign gifts are restricted to the specific purpose of the associated campaign. Annual Fund gifts, by definition, are unrestricted and fund the intentional gap between actual costs and tuition for each school year.

Q: Can I designate my gift to a specific area at Rancho?

A: We ask that Annual Fund gifts be undesignated, so that they may do the most good to the greatest amount of students.

Q: When should I give?

A: The Annual Fund is a year-long effort to support the current year needs. Gifts are welcome any time of the year, and solicitations will be made accordingly. If you have already made your gift, we thank you for your support!

Q: Are there other ways I can help?

A: Absolutely—get the word out! Help us to educate our families on the excellence of a Christian school and the need for Annual Fund contributions to get us there.

Q: What is the difference between the RCS Annual Fund and other kinds of fundraising like the Jog-A-Thon, dinners at local restaurants, auction, and program needs?

A: Each time we work together to raise funds for an activity or program, everyone wins—especially the students! Most of our fundraisers are designed to support specific items, efforts or programs like the purchase of new campus resources or the funding of an athletic season. These events, like the Jog-a-thon, are important in providing supplemental funding for expenses outside of the operating budget – the “nice to haves.” The Annual Fund is the schools’ only fundraising effort that covers the “need to haves” – faculty support, programs and technology, financial aid, and art and athletics. We hope that you participate in the events that most speak to your heart, but we ask that you make giving to the RCS Annual Fund a top priority.

Q: If my family receives financial aid and I donate to the annual fund will it affect my aid?

A: No. There is no correlation. 100% family participation is the goal.

Q: Can I give monthly, by credit card, or online?

A: You can give to the RCS Annual Fund by check or credit card, in one payment or installments, by electronic funds transfer, or even by transfer of appreciated stock. You can give online by clicking here.
